Jan Korsten has been managing director of SHT since 1999

EXPERTISE

Jan Korsten coordinates SHT’s national and international research programmes and projects and is closely involved in the development of new initiatives. He is also responsible for the administrative organization and secretary of the SHT board. Jan Korsten is active in various international organizations. Since 2017, for example, he has been secretary of the Society for the History of Technology. In addition, he has organized a wide range of conferences and workshops. As a historian, he worked on various SHT projects.

EDUCATION AND CAREER

After completing his studies in Commercial Economics at the HEAO in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and History at the University of Nijmegen, he worked as a PhD candidate at the Catholic Documentation Centre in Nijmegen. During his PhD research, he depicted the past of the Limburg Agricultural and Horticultural Association. After completing his PhD, he worked for several years as a freelance historian and worked as project leader of a provincial project for the preservation of the agricultural heritage in Limburg. At the beginning of 1999 Korsten joined SHT.

  • From 1 January 2017: Secretary of the American-based Society for the History of Technolog y(SHOT).
  • From 2004: Secretary of the European Tensions of Europe network.
  • From 1996: Editor of Bossche Kringen (formerly KringNieuws), the magazine published by the Kring Vrienden van ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
